Must-Do Tips to Protect Your Home for Winter

Fall is officially here!  If you are anything like me, this means pumpkin- spiced lattes, football, lighting fall candles around the house, and scouting out all the local pumpkin patches and activities.

Start your fall to-do list

With the turn of the new season, it also reminds me to get our house ready for the next season.

I've compiled a few of my fall household must-dos to help you prepare your home for the winter months:

  • Unhook all outdoor hoses.
  • Have chimney/fireplace inspected and cleaned.
  • Get your HVAC system inspected and maintained.
  • Winterize your sprinkler system.
  • Clean out your gutters.
  • Test out your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
  • Inspect your trees. Check for broken limbs or those close to electrical lines or the roof.
  • Empty fuel and clean your lawnmower and trimmer.

What do you do to get your house ready for the winter months?  I'd love to know so I can add a few more to my 'honey-do' list...Happy Fall!
