Group Life and Health Agent - Chicago, IL


TROXELL is seeking experienced sales associates with a proven record of success in employee benefits, life or health insurance sales.  The ideal candidate will be college educated, licensed in life and health insurance, own a strong book of business, with knowledge of current market trends and legislative compliance issues. Only experienced insurance sales agents need apply; this is not a trainee position. This is an immediate opportunity.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for solicitation, analysis, and placement of complex group health, group life, disability and other ancillary product cases for key clients
  • Responsible for locating new opportunities for the company by visiting existing and new customers with emphasis on mid-size companies
  • Has direct contact with people of all levels, both internally and externally
  • Must be responsive to the customers’ needs and follow through on all aspects of request, both written and verbal
  • Works closely with the sales staff when responding to a request for proposal (RFP) to inform them of market conditions, pricing issues and the current competition on the program
  • Makes presentations to various groups within the customer’s organization when needed
  • Acts as the lead person on preparing the written proposal in response to customer’s RFP, coordinates all information from the different disciplines and arranges the formal response
  • Attends trade shows along with different conferences, both educational and customer oriented
  • Builds strong relationships with clients
  • Solicits for new business via telephone, networking, and other lead sources
  • Stay abreast of insurance industry trends and pursues continuing education

Required Skills and/or Education:

  • Illinois Life and Health Insurance license is required
  • 5 years of experience in selling Group Life and Health insurance products
  • Must be an established agent with ownership of own book of business
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred not required
  • Must own book of business
  • Must have computer skills and ability to learn agency management system (AMS360) and office software programs
  • Knowledge of the Affordable Care Act is extremely valuable and necessary
  • Strong sales with a proven track record is a must
  • Must be able to function in high pressured, fast paced environment
  • Applicant must be articulate and friendly, demonstrate professional appearance and conduct to include high personal standard of work ethic and positive attitude
  • Must work independently, be a self-starter, be receptive to change, possess organization skills to manage numerous, varied, detailed tasks and handle pressure effectively
  • Follow-through and exceed current and prospective client expectations
  • Setting goals with an action plan
  • Ability to communicate well and earn people’s trust
